Sunday 20th November 2011 CICA registration centre at the Avarua Wharf Vaka Village will be open from 4-6pm for any late registrations. All paddlers must register and sign their indemnity forms before Monday’s races. If race shirts need to be exchanged, this will be the last opportunity to do so. We ask that all paddlers respect the wishes of our traditional leaders and ABSOLUTELY NO TRAINING must take place before 1pm whilst people attend Church. The Cook Islands Junior crews from Rarotonga and Aitutaki will be joined by crews from Australia and New Zealand. Come and support the future of o’e vaka! And then…. What: Trader Jack’s Boiler Swim (approx 750m) Swim out from the beach, around The Boiler (approx. 750m) and get back to the beach as fast as you can! Prizes given to top place getters and spot prizes to best dressed, best effort and/or best excuse……!! Gold coin (or note!) donation for our Adopt a School Programme. Wednesday 23rd November 2011 What: Women’s Open V6 “Pacific Paddle” Round Raro Relay What: Men’s Open V6 “Pacific Cup” Round Raro Relay The premier event sees teams battling each other around Rarotonga’s 36km exterior starting and finishing at Avarua township. Again, paddlers can face all sorts of conditions on the day at various stages of the race. This includes a headwind, open ocean swells, side chop and flat water. The varied conditions make this race unique and challenging and seemingly further than the 36km!! Thursday 24th November 2011 What: Mapu U19’s V6 Open Ocean 15km Race When: 7.30am Registration with 8am Race Start Where: Avarua Wharf Junior U19 Men and Women will race together, one start CICA is honoured to dedicate this race to the late Ace Cuthers who gave so much to our sport at every level. What: Open and Master Mixed Round Raro Relay (36km) ‘Bob Worthington Memorial Trophy’ When: 9.30am Registration with 11am Race Start
Junior Wrap Up and Medal Presentations Where: Ngatangiia Club House, Muri The Cook Islands Traditional Sport Challenge will take place at Ngatangiia Rugby Field and will include stilt races, coconut races, weaving and to get back on the water – a fun stand up paddle board race! Followed by medal presentations and BBQ dinner at the Ngatangiia Club House What: BTIB Trade Day – “Go Local!” When: Thursday 24th and Friday 25th November 8am to 2pm
What: Night Market – for local and international food When: Thursday 24th November 6-9pm Where: Opposite the Banana Court next to Avarua Wharf Friday 25th November 2011 What: Muri Beach Sprints Held at picturesque Muri Lagoon, the sprint events are always keenly contested but most importantly, a huge amount of fun!! The feedback over the years has shown that crews look at the sprint day as a fun day, so this year we decided to have a programme change for the first time in 8 years and get all the serious racing out the way during the week, so we can have more fun than ever on the last day of Vaka Eiva! All crews will participate in the 500m races in the morning and then in the afternoon, then the afternoon Steinlager Muri Mingler begins when different crews will team up together – all ages, all genders, all countries for our ‘fun races’ The World Famous “pop the ama” competition will take place later in the afternoon, so start practicing now!! Steinlager will be offering great spot prizes throughout the Muri Mingler. For the first time we will also include the Pacific Resort Stand Up Paddle Challenge Relay - test your balance and team work skills in this fun relay with Travis Grant, Australias #1 paddle boarder. Sail’s Restaurant and Bar will be open when paddlers arrive serving breakfast goodies followed by lunch. Snacks are available all day long. Sail’s will be offering special prices on all food and beverage to paddlers and supporters throughout the day. And then…. What: Vaka Eiva 2011 Official Closing Ceremony All paddlers and supporters will be hosted to a traditional “kaikai” after the official closing ceremony. The Pacific Cup, Pacific Paddle and the Bob Worthington Memorial Trophy will be presented to the winners of the Round Raro Relays as well as medals for the 2nd and 3rd place getters. The President’s Cup will be presented by the CICA president Janet Maki. And finally….. The Paddle’s Up Official After Party at Sails Restaurant & Bar What to do next..... Head to beautiful Aitutaki! Our local Aitutakian padders have put on a special race – Motu 2 Motu on Monday 28th November 2011. Unlikely that you will find a more stunning location to paddle anywhere in the world and the Aitutakians are the most wonderful hosts – need we say more?! |
